Abstract: In this paper, I sketchily present my proposal of a concept of functional homology, along with some empirical criteria. I argue that such concept is necessary for the construction of a rigorous and complete evolutionary cognitive science. Next, I consider the question as to which concept of function —whether a systems-analysis or a selectionist one— better fits my concept of functional homology, and conclude that the systems-analysis notion (originally proposed by Robert Cummins) coheres best with that concept.
