Mental Disorders as Failures of Attention

Resumen
El DSM–5 caracteriza los trastornos mentales como alteraciones significativas de la cognición, la emoción o el comportamiento. ¿Qué podría unir a las alteraciones en esta lista? Según nuestra hipótesis, los trastornos mentales pueden caracterizarse como fallos de la atención [failures of attention]. Los entendemos como fallos al distribuir la atención según las razones que uno tenga, y hablamos tanto de fallos de tendencia como de fallos de habilidad. Discutimos seis ejemplos de trastornos mentales y ofrecemos una glosa preliminar para la reformulación de cada uno en términos que involucran centralmente fallos de la atención. Concluimos subrayando algunas consecuencias teóricas y prácticas de nuestra propuesta.
